My Story

J DILLA

Long live Dilla!!!!!!!
From the moment James Dewitt Yancey was born on February 07th 1974, in Detroit, Michigan he was converted to a religion music and he spend his short life fully leaving that he had loved the most. To j Dilla music was like a series of books with adventures and chapters that need to be explored so that he didn’t get conditioned with the norm that was music back then. He was dedicated, he was true , he was real and he was raw.
He wasn’t afraid to play around with sound and everything he cooked later his friends and the world would deem master pieces, the hip hop fraternity worships this soul for he indeed merged, saved and married hip hop and soul, he was musical genus everything Dilla touched turned to soul and gold. Even through his illness he was in Europe on a wheelchair performing with Baatin and T3 from his slum village project.
He was a perfectionist who didn’t want to be compared to nobody “it was kinda fucked up because people automatically put us in that [tribe] category that we didn’t actually wanna be in” in an interview being compared to [A TRIBE CALLED QUEST] . j dilla redefined “love what you do and do what you love” and what he loved sure made him happy he honoured hip hop and respected his graft and knew that it was his calling in this world. From the previous record we were listening to from the suga hill gang and fresh prince, he brought a style of a different breed and as long as his records of raps and beats live. He will forever be in my memory. Thank you for giving us the soul that lived in you through music.
